The Certificate of Completion (CCL) in CAM Systems Programming program introduces the skills needed to translate product sketches and engineering designs into electronic design systems that are the basis for Computer Aided Design (CAD) and Computer Aided Manufacturing (CAM). The program focuses on CAD/CAM application to the machine language to operate the Computer Numerical Control (CNC) systems that produce the machined product on CNC lathes, milling machines, and other manufacturing equipment.

What You’ll Learn

This program will help you gain the expertise needed to:

  1. List and describe advantages and disadvantages of the Additive Manufacturing (AM) process.
  2. Describe safe practices within a manufacturing environment by listing ten observable conditions that could indicate the presence of health and safety hazards.
  3. Solve problems involving addition, subtraction, multiplication and division of fractions and decimal numbers.
  4. Solve geometry problems involving triangles, polygons, and circles.
  5. Comprehend the electrical and mechanical specifications of relays and solenoids.
  6. List and describe the mechanical and physical properties of metals.
  7. Write a CNC program to control CNC machine functions, multi-axis coordinate path and miscellaneous CNC machine functions.
  8. Plan manufacturing processes for machining and finishing from mechanical prints.
  9. Identify and apply Geometric Dimensioning and Tolerancing (GDT) symbology.
  10. Apply principles of GDT to the establishment of functional gaging activities.
  11. Demonstrate CNC Machining Center operations and controllers.
  12. Demonstrate the procedure for start-up, mode selection, and shut down of CNC Machining Center.
  13. Demonstrate the use of basic CNC Machining Center tooling, and tool holders.
  14. Demonstrate: operations CNC Turning Center operations and controllers.
  15. Determine a tool cutter path and generate a program with a CAD/CAM system.
  16. Generate multi-axis CNC program code.
  17. Perform manual milling, manual lathe, and manual grinding operations while maintaining specific tolerances defined by blueprint requirements.
  18. Use solid parts to generate engineering data.
