July 9-31, 2016

This program is typically offered every other year.

Spend your summer in Costa Rica and wake up every day to the chorus of parrots, toucans, howler monkeys and poison dart frogs as we explore the spectacular wildlife of Costa Rica’s jungles, cloud forests and coast.

The Costa Rica study abroad program offers an incredibly diverse experience, from zip-lining though the cloud forest canopy*, watching giant sea turtles lay eggs on their ancestral beaches, kayaking jungle rivers, riding river taxis, and salsa dancing with the locals.

Our focus will be on the wildlife and photography with tours, excursions and field trips into different ecosystems to learn about and photograph everything from army ants to orchids and sleepy market towns to hummingbirds .

Not Offered in 2016

This program is typically offered every other year.

A trek through the wilds of Africa will probably be the single most adventurous and exciting thing that you will ever do!

In true safari style, you’ll travel Namibia in 4x4 vehicles, learning about, exploring, and photographing Africa’s amazing wildlife, breathtaking landscapes, and unique ecosystems.

You’ll visit Etosha Park with Africa’s big five (lion, elephant, buffalo, rhino, leopard), hike through the dunes at Sossusvlei, come face to face with cheetahs at the Cheetah Conservation Fund while studying conservation strategies, and bushcamp in the world's oldest desert with its bewildering diversity of wildlife.

There will be opportunities for optional activities like dune surfing and adventure sports at Swakopmund.

This introduction to Marine Biology, designed for the non-major, will take you to the Sea of Cortez (our nearest ocean experience), which has one of the best intertidal expanses in the world!

At low tide, as much as 300 feet of what was once covered by the sea is exposed. Students will study the area between the tides and collect both plant and animal specimens, which will be studied under the microscope.

Students will take part in an ongoing scientific survey of intertidal organisms in local habitats.

Depending on the timing of the best tides, the dates of the program may vary from year to year.
