Student Success Programs

  • Financial Aid and Scholarships

    • There are a variety of ways to supplement the funds you have set aside for your education. Many students will receive some sort of financial aid; some funds do not have to be repaid (grants) while others are loans.
    • Be sure to check out all available sources of funding including tribal scholarships specifically for Native American students.
    • You can also CHAT directly with a Financial Aid specialist.
  • Student Mentoring

    • You may explore the Academic Skills Center where we offer FREE drop-in tutoring for developmental Writing, Reading, English as a Second Language (ESL).
    • The American Indian Institute offers tutoring for any student in any academic subject including in-person one-on-one and group tutoring with professional and peer tutors.
    • The Learning Enhancement Center (in the Library) also offer On-demand tutoring (online), one-on-one (in person) tutoring, plus space to meet with study partners.
  • Counseling Services

    • Many types of counseling are available free of charge to all students including:

      • Personal Counseling: Can we talk? Do you have a personal concern that is interfering with your classes? Are you in a difficult relationship? Are you shy and lack motivation? Does it feel like nothing’s going right?
      • Educational Planning: What degree program should you follow? Are you struggling with a course. What can you do?
      • Career Counseling: Have you been a homemaker for years? Unsure of what’s your place in the world of work? Are you changing careers; can you apply your skills to another field? What is available to you?
      • Self-Enrichment: How can you better deal with the college experience? How do you handle the stress you feel? Do you panic on tests? How can you stop sabotaging yourself? Is your inner dialogue too negative?

  • Student Clubs

    • Student Veterans of America-Mesa Community College Chapter - SVA meets on the 3rd Wednesday of the month in the Veteran's office.
    • Indian Student Organization: We get people involved in a number of different activities from fundraising for out-of-state trips to volunteering at Big Brothers/Big Sisters of Arizona and other events such as group bowling outings, picnics, sporting events, and frybread sales.
    • AISES: American Indian Science adn Engineering Society.

  • Veterans, Active Duty and Family

    • Need help with classes, technology support, book lending, housing, health & wellness or finances? Veterans Services can help.
    • Student Veterans of America-Mesa Community College Chapter - SVA meets on the 3rd Wednesday of the month in the Veteran's office VSO.
    • Connect with your Academic Advisor once you have decided on a degree plan and/or major. If unsure of degree plan and/or major, the VSO can connect you with Career Services and Career Coach which can help you decide a Career path and then match your college plan to that goal.
    • An Individual Education Completion Plan (IECP) is required by the VA for all new and returning students in order to use your education benefits. The IECP is a form completed by the student and their academic advisor that list all the courses you will take within your career or degree plan. The IECP is found on the reverse side of the New Student and Returning Student Checklists provided by the VSO.
