Mesa Community College offers popular summer camps for students entering K-12. It is affordable and sometimes free. The camps provide opportunities to have fun while learning about music, theatre, multimedia technologies and basketball. All camps are held on MCC’s Southern and Dobson Campus, 1833 West Southern Ave. Mesa.

Free Summer Music Camp: Band, Jazz, Orchestra and ChoirGather AroundGather Around

Description: This extremely popular music camp features educators and professional musicians to nurture young talent in Mesa Community College’s impressive Performing Arts Center. Required concerts will be the evenings of June 8 and June 9, 2019.

The 2019 MCC High School Band, Jazz, Strings and Vocal Music Camp will run from 9:00 am - 12:30 pm. Lunch will no longer be served on campus and students must make arrangements to be off site by 12:30 pm. Camp will be Tuesday - Friday for week one and Monday - Friday for week two.

Cost: The tuition is FREE. Students must provide their own lunch. Donations of MCC Performing Arts Center supporters, the College, faculty and staff have all provided general donations to make this activity tuition free.

* Eligibility: Open only to incoming 9th grade through 12th grade students who are band, jazz, orchestral musicians or vocalists. Camp placement is limited based on instrumentation and enrollment. Students 9th grade and older may participate with a successful audition and completed application packet.

Description: Mesa Community College and Desert Echoes Flute Project introduce the MCC Summer Flute Project, June 17-22, 2019.

Week-long participants will enjoy warm-up classes to start the morning before rehearsing in chamber ensembles with artist coaches and playing in the larger SFP Flute Choir. There will be 12:30 lunch-time concerts Tuesday – Thursday. Engaging flute classes and master classes are offered every day with the guest artists and artist faculty. Topics are selected from tone, breathing, articulation/tonguing, extended techniques, low flutes, world flutes, intonation, vibrato, acoustics of the flute, leadership skills, selecting a new flute, repair and maintenance, performance anxiety, reading sessions, and more. Major guest artists are Dr. April Clayton, Professor of Flute at BYU and Director of the Da Capo Alliance Foundation; Brian Gordon, Associate Principal of The Phoenix Symphony and piccolo specialist; and Viviana Cumplido Wilson, Principal Flute of The Phoenix Symphony.

The program is available to college and high school students and adult flutists.

Cost: Week-long registration: $250 prior to May 25; $290 after May 25

Description: Learn to be a wiz with photo editing and graphics creation for your best-ever Instagram memes. Plus, improve your video, audio and animation skills. MMM Camp delivers fun, interactive instruction about computer graphics, photo editing, 3D modeling as well as basic video/audio editing and animation. Use popular, free, open-source software including Inkscape, Blender 3D, Gnu Image Manipulation Program, Krita, Audacity and LMMS.

Description: Learning to make apps can be exciting, empowering, and lucrative! At AppMaker Camp, kids will have fun creating a basic app, learn how to program a robot using Swift Code and each student will find out what it takes to submit an app to the iTunes App Store.
