Event Description/Details: Mission Possible: Full Bloom is a five-day camp for Deaf and hard-of-hearing children in preKindergarten through 6th grades. The camp will be held in the East Valley (Mesa). The camp  integrates ASL and STEAM activities throughout the week and is designed to be fully visually accessible, with Deaf adults, Deaf education-adjacent professionals, and signing community volunteers serving as lead counselors and role models

Volunteer Description/Details: Authentic, immersive ASL environment — all communication at camp happens in ASL, giving students rare real-world exposure alongside native and fluent signers:

  • Direct work alongside Deaf adults and certified interpreters in a structured community setting
  • Hands-on experience supporting Deaf children across three age groups in STEAM and language-rich activities
  • Volunteer hours that can count toward any required community service/education hours required for graduation
  • A formal letter of volunteer service documenting their participation, hours, and contribution

Virtual Service Opportunity & Info: Create social media ads to foster hot car awareness. Develop ways by which to encourage social media participation on our social media platforms. Help us develop civic engagement curricula that teaches civic engagement to middle school kids using dog or pet ownership as the catalyst. Create multi-racial hot car awareness ads. Inviting elected officials in the districts the student lives to submit photos. Invite friends and family to like our social media pages as we expand our brand beyond Arizona.

GreenLight Solutions Foundation

Virtual Service Opportunity & Info: Students join a GreenLight Student-Led Sustainability Project with 5 students and a mentor. The commitment is 5 hours per week from February through April 2022. This is a great chance for students to apply their knowledge beyond the classroom, build their practical skill set, and gain relevant resume experience- solving real world sustainability challenges with real local businesses. Projects are first come, first serve!

  • Shape Up US:
    Shape Up US focuses on educating K-6th grade students and parents on nutrition, environmental, and holistic well-being. Students working on the GreenLight project with Shape Up will create a take-home guide for parents and their children on how to live a green lifestyle at home. This guide will be published by Shape Up to distribute to parents across the United States to promote more environmentally conscious homes and families!
  • Green Living Magazine: Solutioneers will collaborate on event greening for their Earth month event on April 22nd and 23rd. We will place an emphasis on zero waste, and provide outreach to event attendees promoting our sustainability efforts. This project is for students interested in event greening and zero waste solutions.
  • Mtuli Foundation: Solutioneers will research various eco-friendly alternatives for cooking fires. The goal of the project is to determine feasible alternatives to be provided to the community in Karonga, Malawi, Africa, listing pros and cons, as well as environmental, social, and economic benefits of each proposed solution. This project is for students interested in international development.
  • Dynamic RE: Solutioneers will interview Arizona utility companies and publish the videos on the Dynamic Youtube channel. The videos will highlight resources and rebates available to property owners across the state and serve as a resource provided to Dynamic clientele. This project is for students interested in sustainability in real estate and energy.

MCC Arboretum

Virtual Service Opportunity & Info: The MCC Arboretum maintains a database and map of the campus trees. The database needs to be updated regularly as trees are removed or added. It also contains scientific information about the tree species, but there is missing information that needs to be researched and input. The map also needs updating and maintenance.
Volunteer Requirements: Access to a computer with internet and limited computer skills are required for the database maintenance. Knowledge of computer programming, specifically Javascript, is required for the map project.

Azura Literacy

Virtual Service Opportunity & Info: Volunteers are needed for Azura Literacy’s virtual reading program. Volunteers will be tutoring elementary students in reading one-on-one through Zoom twice a week for 45 minutes, providing individualized support to struggling readers.
Volunteer Requirements: 

  • at least 18 years old
  • have access to a computer and high-speed internet connection
  • proficient in the following computer skills: using internet browsers & websites – switching between multiple open tabs; Zoom meetings & screen sharing
  • pass a literacy screener
  • Level 1 fingerprint clearance (if you do not have a current valid card, we can cover the cost of the DPS application; volunteers cover the $8.25 scanning fee)
  • interview with the program director, including demonstrating competency using Zoom screen sharing and navigating multiple tabs in a web browser
  • complete the self-paced e-trainings (12-15 hours total) & attend a live Zoom meeting for new tutors (2 hours)
  • commitment to at least 1.5 hours per week (two separate 45-minute sessions) for at least a 16 week semester (or 8 weeks in summer) but preferably for 1 year
  • commitment to attending a monthly volunteer meeting (1 hour/month)

Nick and Kelly Children's Virtual Heart Camp

Event Description/Details: We are hosting a virtual camp for our immune compromised heart kids. Virtual camp dates are July 14, 15, and 16. There will be 2-3 activities in the morning, afternoon, and evening, each lasting a maximum of one hour.
Volunteer Description/Details: Volunteer(s) needed to lead a live Zoom art activity. We are looking for an air dry clay project, board and brush, or tie dye. Camper ages at this time range from four under the age of 10 and the others range in ages of 10-16.

Reading Partners

Virtual Service Opportunity & Info: For 25 years and counting, Reading Partners has been mobilizing communities to provide proven, individualized reading support to put students on a path toward reading at grade level by fourth grade.
Volunteer Requirements: 

  • Age: You must be 14 years or older.
  • Time & location: Commit to a little over one hour per week (tutoring generally takes place 8 am-5 pm, Mon-Thurs).
  • Training: Complete required tutor orientation.
  • Technology: Online tutors must have access to a computer and reliable wifi.

St. Vincent de Paul

Virtual Service Opportunity & Info: St. Vincent de Paul’s Help from Home program offers opportunities to contribute to your community from anywhere, anytime. It’s all about spreading compassion and dignity to everyone in the community. Projects range from making cards for our guests, writing letters, assembling outreach kits, and many others.
