Frequently Asked Questions

Am I eligible for tutoring support for classes I’m taking at other Maricopa Colleges?

Students must be currently enrolled in the MCC course(s) for which they are requesting MCC tutoring.

Can I bring someone with me to the tutoring session, such as a friend, parent, or child?

No, our centers are not open to the public. Guests, including children, are not allowed. If you have a child with you, we recommend using our online tutoring services.

Do I need to schedule an appointment for tutoring?

Tutoring is available on a drop-in modality for all subjects tutored by MCC tutors except for Japanese tutoring.

How do I schedule an appointment with a Japanese tutor, and how many appointments can I make?

Japanese tutoring appointments are scheduled through ConexED. Students may schedule up to 1 hour of Japanese tutoring per week per Japanese course.

Are there limits to how long I can receive help?

For most subjects, we offer drop-in tutoring with no limit on how long you can stay. However, if the center is reaching capacity, a desk assistant or tutor may inform you of a two-hour time limit for your visit. Tutors rotate between students and cannot spend extended time with just one person. You’re encouraged to ask questions, work independently, and then request more help as needed during the same visit.

Which courses does the Learning Enhancement Center offer tutoring for?

We tutor most levels of Biology, Nursing, English as a Second Language, Reading, Japanese, Math, Chemistry, Physics, Computer Science and Writing.

For additional subjects, students can access support through Brainfuse.

Is tutoring available to help me prepare for placement test?

No, tutoring is not available for placement test preparation. You must be enrolled in the course you're seeking help with in order to receive tutoring.

What can I do to get the most out of a tutoring session?
  • Come prepared by attending class, watching assigned videos, completing readings, and attempting your work before your visit. Bring specific questions and all necessary materials, such as assignment instructions, books, notes, assignments, and calculators.
  • Use your time efficiently. Tutors rotate between students and cannot spend extended one-on-one time with any single person. Be ready to work independently between check-ins.
  • Engage actively by participating in discussions, asking questions, and taking notes. For online sessions, stay connected and involved through the ConexED platform.
  • Take responsibility for your learning. Tutors can help you understand concepts and develop skills, but they won’t complete assignments or assist with test or quiz questions.
  • Be respectful. Create a positive environment, keep communication professional, and report any concerns to staff if needed.
