Algebra - Student Learning Facilitator I

Job Summary:

Mesa Community College is hiring several math Student Learning Facilitators to work in the Fall 2019 semester. These positions provide in-person tutoring for math courses in the Learning Enhancement Center.

Essential Functions:

  • 90% Provides in-person tutoring to students in the Learning Enhancement Center; works with diverse population of students, faculty and staff.
  • 10% Provides student status and recommendations to the supervisor; assists with workshops, class presentations and other student success activities; other duties as assigned.

Minimum Qualifications:

  1. Successful completion (grade of "A") in MAT120 or equivalent.
  2. Knowledge of course content and materials in the subject area of mathematics.
  3. Good communication skills and the ability to help students understand complex material.
  4. Patient and respectful of varying levels of student content knowledge.

Desired Qualifications:

  1. Successful completion (grade of "A") in MAT091/092 or MAT151 or equivalent.
  2. Knowledge of instructional methods used in the classroom at MCC.
  3. Knowledge of effective study strategies.
  4. Experience providing quality service in a fast-paced environment.

Special Working Conditions:

Tutors may work in one of the LEC locations on the Southern and Dobson or Red Mountain campus or support students in the classroom as assigned.

  • 90% Provides in-person tutoring to students in the Learning Enhancement Center; works with a diverse population of students, faculty and staff.
  • 10% Provides student status and recommendations to the supervisor; assists with workshops, class presentations and other student success activities; other duties as assigned.

Minimum Qualifications:

  1. Successful completion (grade of "A") in at least one of the Nursing Block courses (NUR152, NUR172, NUR252, NUR283).
  2. Knowledge of course content and materials in the subject area of nursing.
  3. Good communication skills and the ability to help students understand complex material.

Desired Qualifications:

  1. Successful completion (grade of "A") in BIO201 and BIO202.

Desk Assistant

Job Summary:
Mesa Community College is hiring for several Desk Assistant positions to work in the Fall 2019 semester. These positions provide reliable clerical assistance and outstanding customer service in the Learning Enhancement Center.

Essential Functions:

  • 65% Greets and logs students in and out for center usage; provides front-line customer service; provides clerical assistance; performs data entry.
  • 20% Answers/routes incoming calls and schedules tutoring appointments.
  • 15% Connects students with tutors; stocks center with materials; performs duties commensurate to grade level of position.

Minimum Qualifications:

  1. Applicant must be eligible for Federal Work Study
  2. Possess customer service orientation
  3. Possess effective verbal and written communication skills
  4. Familiar with basic computer knowledge, including MS Office

Desired Qualifications:

  1. Experience multi-tasking in a busy office setting
  2. Experience working in a team oriented environment
  3. Experience handling confidential information
