Work Study Jobs

Federal Work Study (FWS) means JOBS on campus for students. It is a form of federal financial aid. To be eligible, you must:

  • have a complete FAFSA on file at MCC

  • have an unmet financial need

  • enroll in at least six (6) credit hours 

  • meet satisfactory academic progress

To determine your eligibility for this program, please go to the Enrollment Center and visit with the Financial Aid department to receive your FWS eligibility (green) slip. 

Please review the student steps to obtaining a FWS job.  In addition to the steps listed, you will need to apply to the FWS pool through our online HR system.  Please visit the Maricopa Jobs website to apply (job id: 310454).  If you need help navigating the Maricopa Jobs website, or assistance with job searching techniques, please visit building 36N on the Southern and Dobson campus and ask the Career Services front desk staff for assistance (or call 480-461-7592).  

FWS Job Openings 

Media Assistant - Media Services (Spring 2019)

Duties Include: Greet customers at reception and answer phones, general office duties. Assist Media technicians with installations, classroom repairs and help calls as needed. Perform preventative maintenance on classroom AV equipment.

Pay Rate: $11.00 per hour, up to 19.5 hours per week

Office Assistant and Tutorial support - Athletics (Spring 2019)

Duties Include:  Basic clerical duties such as data entry and document filing.  Must have good oral and written communication skills, be willing to assist with academic tutoring, and work well with others.  Other job duties as assigned

Pay Rate: $11.00 per hour.  15.5 - 19.5 hours per week

Desk Assistant - Learning Enhancement Center (Spring 2019)

Duties: 

  • 65% Greets and logs students in and out for center usage; provided front-line customer service; provides clerical assistance; performs data entry
  • 20% Answers/routes incoming calls and schedules tutoring appointments
  • 15% Connects students with tutors; stocks center with materials; performs duties commensurate to grade level of position

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Possess excellent customer service skills
  • Possess effective verbal and written communication skills
  • Basic computer skills, including MS Office suite

Desired Qualifications:

  • Experience multi-tasking in a busy office setting
  • Experience working in a team-oriented environment
  • Experience handling confidential information

Pay Rate: $11.00 per hour, up to 19.5 hours per week.  Must have morning availability.

Community Engagement Assistant - Center for Community & Civic Engagement (Spring 2019)

Duties: Customer service, assisting with events, typing, filing, making copies.  Must have an outgoing personality to promote our department and events at tabling opportunities on campus.  Applicants must be reliable and a team player.  Only positive minded students need apply. 

Pay Rate: $11.00 per hour

Work Hours: Looking for one FWS student for each of the shift options below...

  • Monday through Thursday 11:15am - 2:45pm, Friday 11:15am - 2:30pm (17.25 hours per week)
  • Monday through Thursday 2pm - 6pm, Friday 2pm - 5pm (19 hours)

Office Assistant - Counseling Services (Spring 2019)

Duties: Performs various clerical duties which may include reception, customer service, answering phones, scheduling appointments, data entry, screening documents for accuracy and completeness, written correspondence, email filing and other duties as directed.  

Pay Rate: $11.00 per hour.  19.5 hours per week; Varied shifts Monday-Thursday (8am - 7pm) and Fridays (8am - 4pm)

America Reads Tutor - Center for Community & Civic Engagement (Spring 2019)

Duties: The America Reads program encourages tutors to help elementary-age children read well and independently.  Successful applicants will:

  • attend an orientation
  • attend mandatory weekly meetings on Fridays from 1pm - 2pm
  • commit to work at one school with a set group of students for one year
  • complete or test out of RDG091
  • be willing to help plan events such as Scholastic Book Fair and Dr. Seuss' Birthday

Pay Rate: $11.00 per hour, 10 hours per week.  Hours vary by school.

Assistant Teacher - Children's Center (Spring 2019)

Summary of the Job: Main role is to assist the lead teachers in day to day operations of the Children’s Center.

Rate of Pay: $11.00 per hour

Knowledge and Abilities: Ideally the job candidate would be pursuing a degree in education or has a degree. certificate or CDA in Early Childhood or related field. Knowledge of: child development, recreational and educational activities appropriate to preschool children; first aid
Ability to: interpret written documents; maintain accurate records; prepare meals; provide under direction a wide variety of positive stimulating experiences for children; communicate effectively and establish cooperative working relationships.

Training and Experience: Any combination of education, training, and experience that provides the required knowledge and abilities. An example of this would be experience in a childcare program and must meet NAEYC accreditation requirements.

Special Conditions of Employment: Position requires Arizona State certification in CPR, a current First Aid certificate and meets NAEYC accreditation requirements.

Student Gardener - Rose Garden @ MCC (multiple positions)

Duties: Assist with general maintenance of the Rose Garden such as weeding, pruning, watering, trash pick-up, etc.  

Pay Rate: $10.75 per hour.  Times vary from 5:00 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. Monday through Friday, up to 19.5 hours per week.
