Federal Work Study (FWS) means JOBS on campus for students. It is a form of federal financial aid. To be eligible, you must:

  • have a complete FAFSA on file at MCC

  • have an unmet financial need

  • enroll in at least six (6) credit hours

  • meet satisfactory academic progress

FWS Job Openings

FWS - Office Assistant - Athletics

Duties Include: Basic clerical duties such as data entry and document filing. Must have good oral and written communication skills and work well with others. Other job duties as assigned

Pay Rate: $12.15 - $13.00 per hour, up to 19.5 hours per week

Special Notes: Office hours of operation are Monday through Friday 8am - 5pm.

FWS - Department Assistant - Community Outreach / Early College

Application Due Date: Positions open until filled.

Pay Rate: $12.50 per hour, up to 19.5 hours per week

Duties Include:The position will be providing support and retention services to all our Early College Programs – ACE/HOL/ECA. Work in collaboration with the Early College manager on the coordination, design and implementation of workshops/presentations/activities/group discussions. Provide retention efforts
and resources to program participants, collect and track data for program retention efforts, provide
support on recruiting activities/events.

Qualifications:

  • Experience facilitating presentations
  • Experience using effective oral and written communication skills
  • Demonstrate experience performing multiple tasks while maintaining attention to detail
  • Experience with recruitment, sales, and/or marketing
  • Familiarity with all Microsoft applications (Word, Excel, and PowerPoint)
  • Experience working with databases, Excel spreadsheets, and generating reports
  • Experience in providing mentoring/coaching
  • Experience working with youth (high school students)

FWS - Desk Assistant - Learning Enhancement Center

Pay Rate: $12.15/hr

Job Summary
Mesa Community College is hiring several Desk Assistant positions to work in the Fall 2021 semester. These positions provide reliable clerical assistance and outstanding customer service in the Learning Enhancement Center.

Essential Functions

  • 60% Greets and logs students in and out for Center usage; provides front-line customer service; schedules tutoring appointments; monitors the virtual front desk.
  • 25% Answers/routes incoming calls; tracks Center resources; provides clerical assistance; performs data entry.
  • 15% Connects students with tutors; stocks center with materials; performs duties commensurate to grade level of position.

Minimum Qualifications

  1. Must be an MCC student in the Fall 2021 semester.
  2. Possess customer service orientation.
  3. Possess effective verbal and written communication skills.
  4. Basic knowledge of Google Suite and MS Office.

Desired Qualifications

  1. Federal Work Study applicants preferred.
  2. Experience multi-tasking in a busy setting.
  3. Experience working in a team-oriented environment
  4. Experience handling confidential information.

Special Working Conditions
Desk Assistants will work in-person and may work at various LEC locations on the Southern and Dobson or Red Mountain campus.

Special Notes
Must be dependable and available during peak times throughout the semester. New hires to begin in August 2021; Training will occur during the week of August 16, 2021.

FWS - America Reads Tutor - Center for Community and Civic Engagement

Duties Include:
Minimum Qualifications/Requirements:

  1. Be at student at Mesa Community College
  2. Received federal financial aid (Pell Grant) from Mesa Community College
  3. Available to work the 2021-2022 academic year
  4. Enjoy working with young children and passionate about learning
  5. Able to pass a background check and/or obtain an IVP Fingerprint Clearance Card
  6. Have your own transportation to the school you will be working at
  7. Completed or tested out of RDG091
  8. Attend mandatory meetings every Friday from 3:00pm - 4:00pm
  9. Attend a mandatory training on Thursday, July 19th from 9:00am to 12:00pm (in person)

Job Duties:
The role of an America Reads Tutor is to support the academic learning and instruction for students in local elementary schools. The primary grades are kindergarten through third grade. Primarily tutors should spend their time tutoring in reading, writing, and/or math. The teacher the tutor is placed with may have additional classroom duties.

FWS - Community Engagement Assistant - Center for Community and Civic Engagement

Duties Include:
Minimum Qualifications/Requirements:

  4. Attend mandatory student staff meetings on Fridays from 12:15pm to 1:15pm

Job Duties:
The role of the Community Engagement Assistant is vital to the success of the Center for Community & Civic Engagement! The job duties and responsibilities listed below are a snapshot of what this role entails and is not limited to these tasks:

  • Work under supervision of office staff to help coordinate projects, programs, and events.
  • Assist with general office work: greet customers, answer phones, make phone calls, copy, scan, fax, file, and distribute documents.
  • Assist individuals who come into our office with paperwork, procedures, and answer any questions.
  • Assist students, faculty, and community with service-learning, Engagement Team and general assistance.
  • Staff department information tables to promote upcoming events, recruit volunteers, distribute flyers, advertise scholarships.
  • Event assistance, including, but not limited to, setup, cleanup, staffing, assisting participants, and food preparation.
  • Serve as an ambassador of our office – promoting our programs and events.
  • Potential tasks: Flyer creation, data entry, research, and more!

Pay Rate: $12.50 per hour

FWS - Student Employee / Testing Assistant (multiple positions) - Testing Services

Duties Include: Multiple positions available at the Southern and Dobson or Red Mountain testing services office. Please indicate in your cover letter which location you would prefer.

  • Know the Enrollment Process and where testing fits into this process. We will train you as long as you are willing to learn and adapt to your role and be able to perform your job duty.
  • Guide students how to maximize test preparation, knowledge of Boot Camps, retest policy.
  • Test security, ethical expectations of students, reporting of academic dishonesty issues
  • Review instructions for faculty exams, monitor spreadsheet(s), administer faculty exams
  • Assists students with Student Center—self-service
  • Administers college placement tests, ESL, faculty make-up exams. (but not their teacher)
  • Phones, computers, excellent customer service.

Student Services Assistant - International Education

Duties Include:

Tour Guides - Outreach and Recruitment

Outreach and Recruitment Hiring flyer Duties Include:
The position will be the first point of contact for prospective students and their parents. Tour guides will deliver in-person and virtual campus tours associating buildings with programs of study, exploring points of interest, locations of services, etc. These tours could be in small, medium, or large groups. Tour guides may also be required to perform other job-related duties as assigned. The ideal candidate would have:
