TRIO Student Support Services Outreach Specialist

Status: Temporary / Part-Time Employee

Location: MCC, Southern and Dobson; 36N; Student Success Center

Department: TRIO Student Support Services (TRiO SSS Classic/STEM)

Pay Rate Schedule: Hourly (RPS)

Job Summary:
TRIO SSS Outreach Specialist will play a role in student engagement and success for participants in the TRiO Student Support Services Programs (SSS Classic and STEM). Outreach Specialists have successfully navigated their educational journey and are passionate about helping underclassmen at MCC develop the skills necessary to become successful students. Outreach Specialists will work with program participants to overcome academic and social barriers to academic success. Outreach Specialists will develop meaningful and healthy connections with participants and staff, and support participant academic success to reinforce the mission and goals of TRIO SSS.

The TRIO SSS Outreach Specialist will be responsible for:

  • Provide outreach services to SSS participants individually or in groups through one-on-one meetings, outreach activities, and/or other programming focused on learning strategies, health and wellness, career development and planning, and student support and services
  • Creating good student relations and providing student-centered customer service through offering assistance to participants and staff, being an active listener, and offering correct referrals to service areas and/or sources
  • Maintaining up-to-date and information on student services and resources
  • Responding to participant questions in a professional and timely manner
  • Providing support to students in learning how to make good choices for themselves
  • Tracking participation rates and creating reports

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Applicants have a 2.75 CGPA or higher at their postsecondary institution
  • Be in good academic standing overall at their postsecondary institution
  • Have completed at least one semester a their postsecondary institution
  • Have experience working with first-generation, low-income students and/or students with disabilities or themselves come from these backgrounds

Desired Qualifications:

  • Applicants must have a 3.0 GPA or higher at their postsecondary institution
  • Be in good academic standing overall at their postsecondary institution
  • Have completed at least two semesters at their postsecondary institution
  • Have experience working with first-generation, low-income students and/or students with disabilities or themselves come from these backgrounds
  • Have experience working with a federal TRIO Program

Student Services Temp Level 1 (multiple positions available)

Status: Part Time Staff, Hourly

Location: Mesa Community College

Department: Mesa Community College - Admissions & Records (Contact Center)

Pay Rate: $12.15/per hour

Benefits Eligible: This is a part-time temporary position, not eligible for benefits

Work Schedule: Opening shift... Monday - Thursday 8:00am - 1:00pm, Friday 8:00am -1:00pm

Closing shift... Monday - Friday 1:00pm - 6:00pm, Friday 8:00am - 1:00pm

Job Summary:
The purpose of this position is to provide comprehensive support to students seeking assistance with resolving admissions,records, registration, and payment related services in a one-stop enrollment services model to new and continuing students with high levels of accuracy and customer service.

Essential Functions:

  • Answer inbound student phone calls and emails, triage tickets, process dynamic forms, and support Contact Center initiatives
  • Provide customers with clear, complete and accurate responses to their questions and document interactions in the Student Information System(SIS)
  • Ability to successfully use technology in relation to Contact Center (Cisco phone system), Customer Relations Management (CRM), Student Information System (SIS), Google Suite (Gmail, Groups, Drive, and Calendar)
  • Provide other Enrollment Services related support as needed

    Minimum Qualifications:

    • Customer service experience involving a high volume of public contact
    • Experience managing multiple tasks within a process or procedure
    • Effective interpersonal skills and written communication skills
    • Experience working with a diverse student/customer population
    • Experience working with computer software applications such as Microsoft Office & Google Suite, and internet applications

    Desired qualifications: (if applicable)

    • Six month customer service experience
    • Previous experience in higher education setting in a one-stop or enrollment services setting
    • Associates degree or higher

    Special Working Conditions:

    • 25 hours per week and up to 40 hours per week during peak enrollment cycles in (January and August).

    Job Summary:
    TRIO SSS Peer Academic Tutors will play a critical role in student engagement and success for participants in the TRIO Student Support Services Program (SSS). As an Academic Tutor, you will help build positive learning communities for TRIO SSS participants, create meaningful connections with participants and staff, and support participant academic success to reinforce the mission and goals of TRIO SSS. TRIO SSS Academic Tutors will provide individual and group tutoring in specific subject areas, to SSS participants, to supplement services provided on campus. We are currently in need of tutors for Biology, Chemistry, and Physics. Applicants will be agreeable to providing tutoring services within a flexible time schedule (nights, weekends) and in a variety of locations (on campus and off campus).

    Essential Functions:

    • Help participants identify academic problem areas
    • Provide academic assistance in specific subject areas
    • Help participants develop effective learning strategies
    • Facilitate independent learning by helping SSS participants discover their own answers and insights
    • Tracking participant utilization of tutoring and creating reports

    Minimum Qualifications:

    • Applicants have a 3.0 GPA or higher in the subject area courses related to tutoring specialty
    • Be in good academic standing overall at MCC
    • Have completed at least one semester within the MCCCD
    • Have experience working with first-generation, low-income students and/or students with disabilities or themselves come from these backgrounds

    Desired Qualifications (if applicable):

    • Applicants have a 3.5 GPA or higher in subject area courses related to tutoring specialty
    • Have completed two semesters or more within the MCCCD; each semester in good academic standing
    • Have experience working with a federal TRIO program or are an alumni of a federal TRIO program
    • Verifiable tutoring experience
