Materials
- Styrofoam cups
- Peat Moss or Soil and Sand, Mix 3 parts sand to one part soil
- Pencil
- Plastic Bag or Bottle
- Root Hormone
- Clippers
- Cuttings
Directions
- Punch 4-5 holes in the bottom of the cup, fill with soil-sand mixture. Water thoroughly. Punch hole in center of soil. Take cutting and using clippers, scrape 1/2 inch below bud-eye. Allow at least one bud-eye below the soil and one above the soil. Dip the end of the cutting in rooting hormone, shake of excess. Place the cutting in the hole and push the soil around the cutting.
- Cover the cutting with the plastic bag or bottle, keep in area with filtered sunlight. Keep the soil moist, not wet. Allow six to eight weeks for the cutting to leaf out. When you see the fine root hairs coming thru the bottom of the cup, cut a hole in the plastic bag or remove the cap from the top of the bottle.
- Leave for one week, then carefully peel away the Styrofoam cup (be careful not to injure the new root and transplant to a 4" pot or into the ground. Do not fertilize until after the first bloom.
