This program is part of the Reading Department.
It’s essential for life in the modern world. It’s the first of the three Rs. It’s the mother of all learning skills. It’s Reading, and its importance is beyond measure.
The Reading program at MCC is designed to further your English speaking and writing skills, whether or not English is your native language. Our program teaches you proper phonics, vocabulary, and reading improvement, even speed-reading skills. You will also have the opportunity to participate in a Service-Learning experience to provide service to the community.
Our program offers English as a Second Language courses in four levels as well as advanced spelling and vocabulary courses. These courses are specially designed to teach the non-native English speaker to develop reading and writings competencies necessary for success in a college level curriculum and environment.
Courses for college reading, college study skills, and speed-reading are available to assist students in their goal of earning a college degree.

Before signing up for classes, you’ll want to meet with an academic advisor. Together, you’ll lay out an academic plan that suits you best. This step is essential to your academic success.
Advising for the Reading program is available through the Reading department. You can also contact Academic Advisement for general advising. Both will help you determine the exact courses you need to get the education you’re looking for.
