After having been accepted into the National Association of Intercollegiate Athletics last spring, Benedictine University at Mesa is launching its athletic program this fall. Currently there are no athletic facilities on the campus, and student athletes use facilities owned by the city or at Mesa Community College.
As Mesa celebrates the expansion of the Light Rail, Felix Trejo, a Mesa Community College student, told New Times, “Without the light rail, I wouldn’t be able to go to college.” Trejo is studying landscape architecture and hopes to use his degree to help expand the family-owned landscaping business his father started.

Rebecca Ming Hsu, MD, Forensic Pathologist and Owner of Hsu Enterprises, LLC, has been named a Worldwide Branding Top Female Executive in Forensic Pathology. A qualified professional in her field, Dr. Hsu is trained as a funeral director. Cesar Calderon starts classes next week at Mesa Community College. The 26-year-old graduated from Mesa High in 2012, but wasn’t able to afford higher education until a judge upheld a policy making some undocumented immigrants under the Obama administration’s Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals program eligible for in-state tuition at the Maricopa Community Colleges.
