Reduce costs and increase access for MCC students by making textbooks and other course materials (readings, quizzes, models, etc.) available on Reserve in the MCC Libraries. Review the Find My Textbooks Guidelines and submit items using the form, linked below.
Guidelines for Instructors & Departments
What Are Course Reserves?
Course Reserves are textbooks and other course materials (e.g., readings, quizzes, models) made available through the MCC Libraries for short-term student use. These materials are tied to current or regularly taught courses and support low-cost/no-cost student access.
- Instructors and Departments may place items on Reserve.
How to Place Items on Reserve
- Review Guidelines for Instructors & Departments
Complete the form (one form per item):
- A copy of the completed form will be emailed to you.
- Print and attach the form to the item.
- Deliver both to the Library Circulation Desk at the campus where the item should be placed on Reserve. (Southern & Dobson, Red Mountain)
Once received, the Library will catalog, label, and place the item on the Reserves Shelf for student checkout. The MCC Libraries strive for a turnaround time of 72 hours excluding weekends and holidays. Incomplete forms may delay processing. If the Replacement Copy Price field is left blank, $100 will be used as the default value.
Checkout Information
- Students must present a valid photo ID to borrow Course Reserve items.
- The standard checkout period is 2 hours with option for renewal.
- The Library is not responsible for incomplete assignments due to unavailable Reserve items.
️Removing Items from Reserve
- The MCC Libraries will return to the Instructor or Department items that have not been checked out for one year unless you request otherwise.
- Only the Instructor, Department Chair, Department Secretary, or MCC Libraries may authorize removal of Reserve items.
Copyright Guidelines
In accordance with U.S. copyright law and MCCCD Policies (Administrative Regulation 3.2):
- Photocopies of articles, chapters, or other materials may only remain on Reserve for one semester and may not be reused without permission.
- Only one article per journal issue or one chapter per book may be submitted, based on length and substance.
- Consumables (e.g., workbooks, fillable lab manuals, exam copies) cannot be placed on Reserve.
- All photocopied materials must include a full bibliographic citation.
- Instructors are responsible for ensuring copyright compliance.
Purchasing Textbooks
- MCC Libraries will consider the purchase of select titles based on established criteria. A title must be formally adopted for use in a course. Additional factors include course enrollment levels and persistence, documented circulation or request volume, cost-effectiveness, and accessibility/usability for digital content. (To request an item be purchased for the General Collection, please use the Materials Request Form.)
