Library Instruction Objectives

Why Students Need Library Instruction

Today’s students navigate an overwhelming and often unreliable information landscape. Library instruction helps them slow down, think critically, and engage more deeply with ideas. Our goal is to ignite curiosity and empower students to navigate information with purpose and integrity.

When you invite a librarian into your class, you give students:

  • Hands-on experience with academic databases and research tools that support meaningful inquiry and source evaluation

  • A direct connection to librarians—trusted guides for ongoing academic support and research confidence

  • Opportunities to reflect, question, and grow as learners, thinkers, and contributors to academic conversations

What Students Are Saying

  • Sometimes you have to dig deep for the best info, just because its easy to find does not always mean its right.

  • Going into the lesson, I did not know how to use the library search tools. I learned how to use them today in a non-complicated way. They will be very useful for upcoming assignments.

  • I learned lots about how to use Boolean search engines. No one has ever explained this as in depth to me as it was taught today and now I feel a lot more confident about research projects and getting help with anything I need.

  • Today I learned new thing about how communities, families, social media/ society etc... influence what makes us who we are.

Digital Learning Objects

In addition to live information literacy sessions, MCC Library's Instruction Program also supports asynchronous content and tools for in-person and online learners. To partner with the Library on digital learning objects, please contact Megan McGuire at [email protected].

Research Guides

Our  Research Guides are created and maintained by MCC faculty librarians to highlight the best resources, tools, and tips for specific courses, topics, and events. Browse or contact your Subject Librarian to request a custom guide for your needs.

Canvas Content

Bring the library into your course with ready-to-use Canvas pages and modules that support research and information literacy. Need something specific? We also create custom content tailored to your curriculum. Contact your subject librarian to get started.

Videos & Tutorials

MCC librarians have created a variety of videos and tutorials to introduce library resources and guide students through the research process. Check out our repository of videos and tutorials.
