Pranay Modha is proud to be graduating from Mesa Community College this spring and was selected as the keynote speaker for the 2026 Academic Honors and Awards Ceremony. A Presidential Honors Student Scholar, Modha is recognized for his academic excellence and extensive community service through involvement with Phi Theta Kappa, where he serves as president of the Omicron Beta chapter.
Modha is an All-Arizona Academic Team Scholar-First Team and a member of the 2026 Coca-Cola Academic Team..
His interest in technology began early and developed into a passion for understanding how systems work and how they can be used to solve some of the world’s most pressing challenges.
“When I was young, I really enjoyed watching TV and playing video games. I was amazed how such immersive experiences could just magically show up on the screen. As I began to learn more about how computers worked, I started to see that they can be used as much more than just story-telling devices: they are capable of changing people’s lives,” Modha said.
Modha plans to transfer to the University of Arizona College of Science to pursue a bachelor’s degree in computer science. He is particularly interested in researching the intersection of artificial intelligence, robotics and cybersecurity.
“I have seen technology help and hurt the people I care about. I want to become a researcher and engineer specializing in artificial intelligence so that I can teach others about technology— and the responsibility they have in using it.”
In addition to his academic achievements, Modha enjoys learning Sanskrit, writing poetry and spending time with his family.
“I want to thank the wonderful staff and faculty of the Computer Information Systems department, the Mathematics department and the Communication, Theatre & Film Arts department for their support. I especially want to thank Mr. Brian Goehner, Miriam Lierley, Theresa Killebrew, Dilshad Haleem, Jeff Holden, Dr. Puvana Ganesan and my community for helping me grow beyond my struggles and successes. They are the people who guide my heart.”
