Mesa Community College will host a celebration honoring veterans at the Grand Opening of MCC’s new Veteran Center for Student Success on Friday, Nov. 8 from 11 a.m. - 1 p.m. This free event takes place on MCC’s Southern and Dobson Campus and is open to the public. The celebration includes a Veteran Community Resource Fair and a ceremony honoring Military Service of MCC students, faculty and employees.
A special program of speakers takes place at 11:15 with Shouan Pan, President of MCC; Felicia Ganther, MCCCD Associate Vice Chancellor of Student Affairs; Col. Steve Weintraub, AZ Dept. of Veteran Services; and Maj. Lillis Lloyd, MCC Faculty.
The Office of Veteran Services at MCC has proudly served Arizona veterans for over 40 years. The new center is a comprehensive one-stop shop that assists veterans with registering for classes, requesting benefits, deferring tuition, signing up for book advances, and many other steps within their educational journey.
Additionally, the center offers an informal meeting area for students to congregate and meet other veteran students.
Approximately 1,000 veteran students are enrolled at MCC, representing all five service branches. Recently, MCC was awarded the Military Friendly Designation by Victory Media, which honors the top 20 percent of colleges, universities and trade schools in the country that are doing the most to embrace America’s military service members, veterans, and spouses as students and ensure their success on campus.
