MESA, Arizona – Sept. 13, 2021 – The Boeing Company supports Mesa College Promise students with a $10,000 gift, opening doors for high school graduates to attend Mesa Community College.
“Boeing is proud to support the Mesa College Promise and the bright students this program will assist. As a recipient of a similar community college program, I can attest that this type of investment has a long lasting impact on awardees’ education and career journeys and their resulting contribution to their communities,” said Leann Shaffer, Boeing’s Community Investor in Arizona.
The Mesa College Promise provides financial support to students with demonstrated financial needs which are not fully met through Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) funds or scholarships. Boeing’s generosity reflects the commitment and engagement of our business and industry leaders in supporting the attainment of education beyond high school -- transforming the future of many families in the City of Mesa -- today and the generations to follow.
“The Mesa College Promise program is a win for students, for businesses and for our city, and we’re grateful for this contribution from The Boeing Company” said Mesa Mayor John Giles. “Thanks to generous business partners like Boeing, we’re building attainable pathways to higher education for Mesa’s graduating high school seniors, and we’re investing in the workforce of tomorrow.”
“We welcomed the inaugural group of 86 Mesa College Promise scholars to their first college classes in August,” said Lori M. Berquam, Ph.D., MCC interim president. “The Mesa College Promise is more than just financial aid, it’s a promise that a college education is attainable. Each of these new Thunderbirds receives personalized academic support, workshops, tutoring, iPads to use and opportunities to intern with Mesa businesses.”
Boeing’s extraordinary support and philanthropy for Mesa and higher education continues its long-standing and nationally acclaimed partnership with MCC.
Mesa College Promise funding, awarded through the Maricopa Community Colleges Foundation, is made possible through the generous contributions of more than s10 additional businesses as well as individuals and the federal CARES/HEERF acts.
