Mesa Community College Music Department Presents: Jazz/MPJE Jazz Concert featuring the East Valley Jazz Cooperative

Feb 25 at 7 pm at MCC Performing Arts Center

The MCC Jazz Band has a long history of continued success. Under the direction of MCC alum and instructor Paul Brewer, the MCC Jazz Ensemble continue to promote jazz at a high level throughout the Valley. Performing selections from the Oliver Nelson (an influential jazz saxophonist and composer/arranger) catalogue.

Jazz Big Band Lovers! You Won't want to miss this one! At the MPJE Jazz Ensemble with Artistic Director and Piano Extraordinaire Nick Manson is made up of professional musicians and educators from around the valley.   They will be performing selections from the Birth of the Cool, a compilation album by the American jazz  trumpeter and bandleader Miles Davis, released in February 1957

The East Valley Jazz Cooperative provides in-person instruction on Saturday mornings at Mesa Community College. VJC programs run from December to mid-May each school year. The VJC is offered free of charge to area music students in grades 8 thru 12

  Oliver Nelson (1932-1975) was an influential jazz saxophonist and composer/arranger and bandleader who also composed for television and movies from the late-1960s and early 1970s.
