The most important thing that you can do is to be informed and prepared. Disaster prevention includes both being prepared as well as reducing damages (mitigation). The four important steps to be sure you and your department are ready for any emergency situation are: be informed about the different types of emergencies that can happen in your area and their appropriate responses, make a family/workplace communications plan, build an emergency kit, and get involved in community/college preparedness.
Emergencies, accidents, injuries and other unexpected events can occur at any time and in any place. Being prepared both mentally and physically for the unexpected is the first and best defense to minimize an incident.
