An Arizona Community College Athletic Conference Coach of the Year, Steve Jacobs has produced for Mesa Community College 43 national champions and 507 All-Americans. Steve’s focus is on developing well-rounded students -- his athletes consistently earn Academic All-American awards. Under his direction, Thunderbird Track & Field ranks as one of the premier teams in the country, typically finishing in the top 20 at National Junior College Athletic Association championships. Steve’s career at MCC started in 1982 as an assistant coach, making his coaching tenure the second longest at MCC. He was an Arizona State University assistant coach in 1983, and has been the Thunderbird head coach since 1989. His contributions to national track & field include coordinating Mesa's hosting of the 2014 NJCAA National Championships.

Steve’s understanding of the motivations and needs of track and field athletes is rooted in his own athletic achievements. He was an Arizona State Champion in the pole vault at Glendale High School, a two-time All-American in the decathlon at the University of Arizona, and the decathlon runner-up in the National Collegiate Athletic Association Division I Outdoor Track & Field Championships. He competed in three USA/USSR decathlon meets, where he was the top American finisher in 1981.
