MESA, Arizona – Sept. 28, 2017 – Mesa Community College student Thomas Carlisle is the recipient of a $1,500 Robert Greenberg Scholarship from the Society of Broadcast Engineers (SBE), through the Ennes Educational Foundation Trust.

The scholarship is awarded to individuals interested in continuing or beginning their education in broadcast engineering and technology.

"With the ever-changing landscape of broadcast technology, the line between Broadcast Engineer and IT has not only blurred, it has gone away,” Carlisle said. “To be successful in this industry, a strong IT background is a necessity. Using my scholarship to take the Cisco Certified Network Associate track from MCC's Network Academy will help me to develop my skill set in Network Engineering and allow me to better control and plan the growth of our systems at SNEAKY BIG Studios."

Carlisle, a Mesa resident, began his career in broadcast working as a freelance system design engineer focusing on recording studios, post-production facilities, and broadcast facilities in 2000 while in New York. In December 2004, he joined the staff of Trade the News. For eight years, he helped design and expanded its web-based subscription Squawk Box service.

In 2012, Carlisle joined Fox News as a Broadcast Maintenance Assistant in the Quartermasters department. In 2014 he joined the staff of NBC-affiliate KPNX-TV in Phoenix, AZ as the Broadcast Maintenance Engineer. Two and a half years later he joined SNEAKY BIG Studios as Studio Engineer to manage Broadcast and Technical Operations. He became a Certified Broadcast Television Engineer in 2017 and is continuing his education at MCC in preparation for the Broadcast Network Engineer certification and Cisco Certified Network Associate certification upon completion of the Cisco Networking Academy–CCNA program in 2018.

“Education continues to be a focal point of the Society of Broadcast Engineers, and through the Ennes Educational Foundation Trust, we can assist deserving candidates with Ennes Scholarships to support their education in broadcast engineering,” said SBE President Jerry Massey.
