MCC Red Mountain Presents Award-Winning Author James Sallis and Folk Band “Three-Legged Dog”

An Evening of Poetry, Prose and Song   

Award-winning author James SallisAward-winning author James Sallis MESA, Arizona — April 8, 2016 — Mesa Community College at Red Mountain is hosting Award-Winning Author James Sallis and folk band “Three Legged Dog” on Friday, April 15 from 6:30 p.m. to 8:30 p.m. in the Saguaro Lobby and the RAP Center at MCC’s Red Mountain Campus, 7110 E. McKellips Rd., Mesa.

Sallis is the author of the novel “Drive” from which the award-winning 2011 film with Ryan Gosling was derived. Over the past 50 years, Sallis has published 15 novels, multiple collections of short stories, poems and essays, three books of musicology, reams of criticism, a classic biography of Chester Himes, and a translation of the novel “Saint Glinglin.”

Sallis, who taught advanced novel writing at Phoenix College, currently plays with his band “Three-Legged Dog.” He has 40 years of experience playing country blues and bluegrass, as well as years of playing steel guitar. In “Three-Legged Dog,” he plays guitar, Dobro, mandolin, harmonica, banjo and fiddle with fellow musicians Ant Bee and Odie Piker. The trio frequently carts their 18 to 20 instruments to concerts and music festivals in the Phoenix area to play a varied mix of music.Folk band Three Legged DogFolk band Three Legged Dog
