MCC Offers Summer Camps In Music, Theatre, Multimedia and Spanish STEM

MESA, Arizona -- March 11, 2016 -- Mesa Community College 2016 summer camps for K–12th students offer free and affordable opportunities to learn and have fun in classes including music, theatre, multimedia and Spanish STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering and Math). All camps are held on the college’s Southern and Dobson campus, 1833 W. Southern Ave., Mesa. Information at mesacc.edu/summercamp.

MCC Multimedia Madness Camp
Learn to be a wiz with photo editing and graphics creation for your best ever Instagram and Facebook memes. Plus up your video, audio and animation skill sets. Multimedia Madness Camp is for sixth to eight graders, 8:30 a.m. – 3:30 p.m., June 20 -30, Monday – Thursday. MMM Camp delivers entertaining, interactive instruction about computer graphics, photo editing, 3D modeling, basic video/audio editing and animation. Use popular, free, open-source software including Inkscape, Blender 3D, Gnu Image Manipulation Program, Krita, Audacity and LMMS. Tuition is $199; class size is limited and fills quickly. “Magic of Musical Theatre”
Budding Broadway stars in the fifth through 12th grade take to the stage in Session I June 6 – 18 and/or Session II June 20 – July 1. Each session runs Monday – Friday, 1:30 - 5:30 p.m., and provides an opportunity for all children to have ensemble and solo singing opportunities. All performance levels are welcome! Participants appear at MCC’s dazzling new Performance Arts Center and end their session with a rousing Broadway revue. “Magic of Musical Theatre” is $285 per session. Magic Music Kidz is a two-week, musical theatre workshop for K–4th grade, June 20 – 29, 11 a.m. – 12:50 p.m., Monday – Friday. Using Broadway show tunes, youngsters explore singing techniques, choreographed movements and creative drama with a final demonstration performance for the stars-to-be showcasing their talents and skills. MCC Free Summer Band and Jazz Camp
Lively musical sounds of children celebrating summer fill Mesa Community College’s innovative Performing Arts Center this summer. Camp directors Robert Hunter and Paul Brewer invite students currently in grades six through12 with at least one year of school music instruction to apply for MCC’s 2016 Summer Band and Jazz Camp, 9 a.m. – 3:30 p.m., Monday – Friday, May 31 – June 10. Concert participation is required the evenings of June 9 and 10. All ability levels are considered with a music teacher letter of recommendation and a recorded audition. Campers provide their own lunches. Tuition is provided from donations of MCC Performing Arts Center supporters, the college, faculty and staff. Camp fills quickly! MCC Free Spanish Science, Technology, Engineering, Math (STEM) Camp
Students in third to fifth grade increase their Spanish language skills while engaging in exciting STEM activities such as creating straw towers, building robots, making solar ovens and exploring wind-powered cars. Camp is 9 a.m. – 3 p.m., Monday through Thursday, May 31- June 16. Tuition is free. Students provide their own lunches. Details and registration at mesacc.edu/summercamp.
