MCC Announces New Dean of Enrollment Services, Carmen Prado Newland

MESA, Arizona – February 23, 2016 – Mesa Community College announced recently that Carmen Prado Newland has been hired to serve as MCC’s new Dean of Enrollment Services.

Prado Newland is a higher education professional with over 20 years of experience providing leadership in the student services areas of admission, recruitment, retention, advising and enrollment management.

In addition to her experience in student services, she also has three years of experience working with academic affairs coordinating curriculum development, course scheduling and program approval. Her knowledge of student affairs and academic affairs, combined with her experience working in community colleges, a four-year college and a large university, allows her to approach her work with community college students from a unique perspective and with a diverse set of abilities and knowledge.

"As a Mesa resident of almost twenty years, I have always been impressed with how connected MCC is to the residents and communities in Mesa,” Prado Newland said.  I have watched and learned from some of the innovative educational and community programs offered by MCC, and I am proud to be joining a college with such a rich history.  I am very excited to be part of the future of Mesa Community College."  

Prado Newland is a first generation college student from Blanco, New Mexico. She earned a B.A. in Psychology and Family Studies from the University of New Mexico and a M.Ed. in Educational Leadership from Northern Arizona University. She previously served as the Director of Enrollment Services at Phoenix College and was the Director of Academic Services at Arizona State University’s Mary Lou Fulton Teachers College for 13 years. Prado Newland has also worked at Fort Lewis College, University of New Mexico and San Juan College.

In 2015, she was selected to participate in the National Community College Hispanic Council Leadership Fellows program and is an active member of multiple professional organizations dedicated to the success of college students. Prado Newland resides in Mesa with her husband, Corey, and their two boys.
