MCC Adds France and Italy to Study Abroad Programs

Venice Italy canal MESA, Ariz. – Oct. 30, 2017 – Mesa Community College has two new Study Abroad programs offering students and community members an affordable option to study in Nice, France as well as Florence, Rome and Venice, Italy. Each program features academic study, language immersion and cultural excursions. No previous language knowledge is required.

With the new French program, students learn and practice conversational French while exploring the history and culture of the country. Participants spend three weeks on excursions to Cannes, Les Iles de Lérins, Antibes, Eze, Beaulieu sur Mer and Monaco.

In Italy, students explore art history and photography in the heart of the Roman Empire, a global center for art, fashion, food and design. The buildings, piazzas, and museums of Rome, Florence and Venice serve as classrooms to experience rich Italian history and culture.

“We are very excited to offer these new programs for students,” said Annique Petit, MCC director of International Education. “Skills learned while studying abroad make individuals more adaptable and prepared for the global workforce.”

Studying abroad has a beneficial impact on employability after graduation, according to a report by the Institute of International Education (IIE), citing 11 out of 15 “21st century workplace skills” gained through an experience overseas. Studying abroad enhances the development of job skills, expands career possibilities and has a long-term impact on career progression and promotion.

“Each year, we observe growth in the areas of emotional intelligence, the ability to listen, and language skills as our students learn and explore other countries,” Petit said. “We know studying abroad impacts their future in a very beneficial way.”

All MCC study abroad programs, which include those previously established in Belgium/European Union, Britain, Ireland, and Mexico, are open to all students and community members. Scholarships are available.
