Basics of Piano Accompanying Instrument, MUP 289, introduces pianists to the essential collaborative skills needed to transition smoothly from solo playing to ensemble performance. The course focuses on core pianistic adjustments, helping you sharpen your sight-reading agility through quick interval, chord, and rhythmic pattern recognition. You will learn to adapt your touch and tone to achieve a beautiful balance with a soloist, master the unique keyboard textures required for orchestral reductions, and cultivate real-time flexibility when responding to breathing and stage cues. Designed to build performance confidence and manage stage anxiety in a supportive environment, this course provides the practical, professional tools every versatile pianist needs to thrive in collaborative partnerships.
Additional Accompanying Opportunities for Piano Students
Our instrumental and vocal students frequently require accompanists for studio classes, recitals, and juries. To support this need, the MCC School of Music maintains a student-accompanist referral list. We invite accomplished piano players (late-intermediate to advanced levels)—regardless of their specific music major—to join this registry and connect with fellow musicians seeking collaborative partners.
Please note: This registry is provided as a courtesy service to facilitate student collaboration and is not an official employment offering or matching service of the MCC School of Music.
