Greek
You might as well be speaking Greek. No kidding. Because Greek is not only the oldest Indo-European language -- Greek has been around for more than 30 centuries -- it is still spoken today by at least 13 million people and is recognized as one of the official languages of the European Union. Greek is the language of Socrates, Plato, and Aristotle and it also continues to be the predominant source of the international scientific vocabulary. Would it surprise you, then, that more than fifty-thousand English words can traced back to this enduring language?
The Greek program at MCC offers two tracks:
Conversation Track – emphasizes speaking and listening skills. It is for tourists and those desiring minimal conversational ability only. Some of these courses are related to specific areas of employment, such as Spanish for Health Personnel.
Foundation Track – prepares students for courses above the 200-level at any university. The courses 101, 102, 201, 202 are university equivalent. This track is also for those desiring a balanced program. The four skills included: listening, speaking, reading, and writing.
Our students enjoy:
- State-of-the-art language laboratory
- Free tutoring services
- Language training for specific work environments
- Conversational partners
- Study Abroad options in many different countries
Meet with an Advisor
Before signing up for classes, you’ll want to meet with an academic advisor. Together, you’ll lay out a program and career path that suits you best. This step is essential to your academic success, so don’t skip it, okay?
Advising for the Greek program is available through the World Languages department. You can also contact Advisement & Registration Services for general advising. Both will help you determine the exact courses you need to get the education you’re looking for.
