English

English is much more than just dangling participles, adverbs, and semicolons. It’s a broad area of study that includes many disciplines, such as composition, humanities, literature, creative writing, and English as a Second Language. Simply put, English concerns all the ways humans use language and art to communicate with each other.

Considered vital to any post-secondary education, English is a general requirement in every four-year program. That’s where we come in. The English program at MCC offers you a variety of courses designed to meet university transfer requirements and appeal to the wide interests of our students. In addition to first-year composition, our diverse faculty offer classroom and online courses in literatures, the humanities, creative writing, academic writing, personal writing, film studies, women's studies, journalism, and more.

The English program includes five concentrations:

  • Composition
  • Creative Writing
  • English Humanities
  • Journalism
  • Literature

Advising for the English program is available through the English department. You can also contact Advisement & Registration Services for general advising. Both will help you determine the exact courses you need to get the education you’re looking for.
