MCC Reading Studies embraces the potential of our students by providing quality instruction through integrated learning opportunities. We empower students to think critically and engage with their community. Through reading, students develop the disciplinary literacy and critical thinking skills needed to obtain personal, academic and professional goals, and support the 21st century learners in navigating their contribution to the local and global communities.
Reading Courses
ALT100: Academic Literacy Integrated Reading and Writing
Students place into ALT100 based on both a Reading and English placement score. This course prepares students for college-level reading and writing-intensive courses as well as career-related reading
RDG100: Successful College Reading
Emphasis on reading study strategies for any introductory class in any subject area.
CRE101: College Critical Reading and Critical Thinking
Develop and apply critical thinking skills through critically reading varied and challenging materials.
Use EdReady to Improve Reading
EdReady is a free online service we provide that determines your skill levels in English, math, and reading. You can then find the best courses to register for based on your EdReady scores. And if you need to strengthen a skill in an area, it helps with that too!
Use EdReady for Reading Placement
First, take the EdReady reading assessment to check your knowledge. EdReady will assign you a score. Don't worry if the score to take a class isn’t quite what you need. EdReady will help you improve by building a personalized study path and going over critical concepts. You can then focus on what you need to learn, skip the areas you understand, and continue working in EdReady until you reach the score you need. It’s that easy!
