MTC191 Electronic Music I 3 Credits

An introduction to creating music with computers, utilizing the Musical Instrument Digital Interface (MIDI) protocol, synthesizers, digital audio software/hardware, and MIDI controllers. Prerequisites: None.

Course Notes: Students must provide their own headphones- contact instructor for additional information.

Reason 11 Intro $99 download for Mac or PC—can be found at https://www.reasonstudios.com/shop/product/reason-11-intro/ Any USB MIDI Controller Keyboard (full-sized piano keys recommended) Any Mac Computer with Intel Core i5 or higher, 8GB RAM or more (16GB recommended) with OS X 10.11 or later. OR: Any PC with Intel Core i5 / AMD Athlon X4 or higher, 8GB RAM or more (16GB recommended) with Windows 7 SP1 or later. Ability to playback and record audio: can be headphones or external speakers While in a live on-line classroom, background sound from speakers can be disruptive and create feedback. Please use headphones as if you were in the DAW Lab on the MCC campus. Any External USB or Firewire preferred If not external, computer must have a LINE IN and HEADPHONE/SPEAKER out. Virtual Meeting Software: Capability to participate in a virtual classroom environment via free, readily available software like Zoom, Webex, or our MCCCD platforms.
