Technology is Topic of Psychology Lecture

MESA, Arizona—September 2, 2015—Technological devices are everywhere and our reliance upon them is only increasing. On Sept. 8 at 7 p.m., Mesa Community College’s Psychology Evening Lecture Series will examine the effects technology has on us personally and interpersonally. Technology: The Perfect Best Friend You Will Never Have, will be held at MCC’s Performing Arts Center at the college’s Southern and Dobson Campus. The event is free and open to the public.

"We invite the community to join us for this month's presentation to gain insight into the effects technology has on our lives," said Ed Lipinski, MCC psychological science faculty member. "Local expert Frank Bevacqua will provide timely information on this fascinating topic."

Bevacqua, a Scottsdale resident, holds a Ph.D. in counseling psychology from Arizona State University. He has been a licensed psychologist for several years in Arizona and is also a life coach in his own practice with H.O.P.E. Coaching Services.

“My talk will focus on our extreme use of technology, the effects that it is having on us and our relationships, and what we can do about it,” Bevacqua said.  “Attendees will learn how to reconnect with others by first disconnecting from technology.”

MCC’s Psi Beta chapter sponsors the Evening Lecture Series in Psychology. Psi Beta is a national honors psychology society for community colleges and an affiliate of the American Psychological Association (APA) and the American Psychological Society (APS).

Next month’s lecture is Psychological Applications for Equine Facilitated Learning and Equine Facilitated Psychology on Nov. 10 at 7 p.m. in the MCC Theatre at the Southern and Dobson Campus.
