Did you know that plastic water bottles can take between 400 -1,000 years to decompose (banthebottle.net), or that Americans throw away 35 billion plastic water bottles every year (ecowatch.com)? MCC at Red Mountain Students Are Asking for YOUR Help! The SSH111 Sustainable Cities class, led by Professor Niccole Cerveny, has erected an approximately 18 foot tall Waste Bottle Model. The goal – to bring visual awareness to the impact of plastic bottle use and collect at least 4,000 bottles. You can help by bringing in your plastic bottles. The Waste Bottle Model is located in the lobby of the Saguaro Building and you can personally deposit your plastic bottles by dropping them through the opening from the adjacent staircase. To reduce dependence on plastic bottled water, water bottle filling stations are now available at both MCC campuses. Results of the Ban the Bottle project will be revealed Wednesday, April 19, at 11:00 a.m., as part of MCC at Red Mountain’s Earth Week and 15th Anniversary Celebration. Earth Week and Red Mountain 15th Anniversary events are located at MCC's Red Mountain Campus, 7110 East McKellips Road, Mesa, AZ 85207. Tuesday, Wednesday, Thursday (April 18 – 20): Clothing Swap from 9 am-3 pm in M200. Please donate gently used clothing (men, women, children--all sizes), shoes and accessories to the Student Life office (Mesquite Building) from now until April 17.
