Artist Talk with Sinnagwin
About this event
The Art Gallery will host guest speaker Sinnagwin (Roger McKinney), a professional artist, minister and member of the Kickapoo Nation of Kansas. Sinnagwin’s work reflects his perspective as an Anishinaabe artist and explores the spirit and cultural heartbeat of “Turtle Island” through Indigenous storytelling. He earned his MFA degree from the American University in 1986 and a BA degree from Graceland University in Lamoni, Iowa in 1982. Sinnagwin retired in 2022 as an art professor at Scottsdale Community College after 26 years.
This artist talk accompanies the Rooted in Relations - Authenticity and the Power of Indigenous Sovereignty on display through April 2. This group exhibition of artwork celebrates the interconnection, strength, and sovereignty that flow from Indigenous relationships—with land, language, culture, and community.
