About this event

Desert Echoes Flute Project Concert

Dec. 6 at 7:30 pm

General Public - $8, Staff/Senior/Military - $7, Students - $6

Join the 60 flutists of Desert Echoes Flute Project in a concert celebrating the 'Joy of Christmas' including classical works, popular songs, carols, and a delightful arrangement of The Night Before Christmas featuring narrator Jeff McKeehan.

The 37-member Community Flute Choir performs Judy Nishimura’s “The Nutcracker in 5 Minutes” with favorite melodies arranged into an entertaining version of the ballet music by Tchaikovsky. Also on their program is "We Three Kings/Carol of the Bells", "Fyfe’s Noel", and the Golinsky "Serendipity for flute choir" - think of Eric Whitacker + A Charlie Brown Christmas + Medieval Dance + the Nutcracker. It's fun!

The Baroque masterpiece, Corelli’s Christmas Concerto, features soloists Linda Bailey, Alicia Wardell, and Alan Tomasetti with the DEF Chamber Choir.

DEFproject (26 flutists) will be playing the Holst "Christmas Day", classical works by Bach and Saint-Saens, the popular Christmas songs "Mary, Did you Know" and "Where Are You Christmas", the Austrian lullaby "Still, Still, Still,” and Sorrentino’s "Medley Natalizia" - a series of songs from the Anglo-American Christmas repertoire. These are melodies made famous by Frank Sinatra, Bing Crosby, and Dean Martin in several musicals of the past.

All the flutists of DEF join together at the end of the program for “O Joyful Children,” "Silent Night,” and “We Wish You a Merry Christmas.” Special guest for this concert is high school student Dallen Johnston, The Passionate Percussionist, of recent viral video fame.
