2013 Intranet Highlight

Intranet Press Release - 5/16/13

Dream Team of 15 - Within 10 days of the new officer team being officially recognized at our Phi Theta Kappa End of the Year event on May 3rd, these 15 students have already started working toward their path to success for the 2013-2014 academic year.

As a team, the Phi Theta Kappa officers will be focusing on two major projects that they will be entering into Regional and International Phi Theta Kappa competitions:

  • College Project - a research and service project for the college which is completed by Phi Theta Kappa members guided by school administration
  • Honors in Action Project - a research and service project for the community focused around the "Culture of Competition" and based on one of the 10 National Phi Theta Kappa themes.

May 13th, 2013: Our 15 Phi Theta Kappa officers attended the all-day Arizona Central District Leadership Retreat at South Mountain Community College.  Here they interacted with other Maricopa Community College District Phi Theta Kappa chapters (and a few from Pima County) and participated in team building activities.  They also learned about becoming a 5 star chapter, which is something Mesa Community College's Omicron Beta Chapter has been able to achieve for the past few years.

May 14th, 2013: Ready to start brainstorming and learning about their new officer roles, the Phi Theta Kappa had a second all-day retreat here at Mesa Community College.  They created goals for the year, went over their StrengthQuest Strengths Test Results (learning about their strengths in relation to their positions and their cohesiveness as a team), and learned about their upcoming roles.

To prepare for the College Project, the officer team met with College President Dr. Shouan Pan and Red Mountain Provost Patrick Burkart to explore the needs of the college.  The officer team will continue to work with administration throughout the course of the year.
