More Detailed Information

Synopsis
It’s 1954, and Benjy Stone, freshman writer on TV’s King Kaiser Comedy Cavalcade, is assigned the daunting task of baby-sitting veteran Hollywood swashbuckler Alan Swann while he's doing a live guest appearance on the show. The effort to keep the reckless Swann off the booze and out of the papers during the rehearsal week nearly drives Benjy to the brink. But when he's given an unexpected glimpse into Swann's broken heart, Benjy begins to discover a thing or two about life and love. The show is filled with 13 juicy leading roles for comic actors as well as a large ensemble.

Registration

Auditions are open to high school juniors and seniors as well as incoming freshmen – as long as rehearsals don’t conflict with your class schedule (if enrolled in high school).  Once cast, all members must register for MUP270, the 2 credit performance class.  Scholarships are available depending upon need.

Character Breakdown

"ROOKIE" CARROCA - Belle's husband, Betty's step-father. A compact Filipino in his forties. He held the bantam weight title for well over six months.

ALAN SWANN - A handsome, albeit well-traveled, Hollywood leading man, a star for more than thirty years. Cut in the Errol Flynn mode with panache to spare.

ALICE MILLER - A writer on Comedy Cavalcade. Losi Lane with a better sense of humor. She has no problem going toe-to-toe with King...or anybody else for that matter.

AUNT SADIE - Benjy's aunt, Morty's wife. You would have absolutely no problem picking them out as a couple.

BELLE MAY STEINBERG CARROCA - Benjy's mother. A substantial beacon of Brooklyn society. Generous of nature and proportion. In her matronly forties, but a lady shouldn't be asked.

BENJY STONE - A young man in his mid-twenties. Eager, alert; the way we'd like to think we all were at twenty. Freshman writer on King Kaiser's Comedy Cavalcade.

ENSEMBLE - Chorus Girls, Male Dancers, Sketch Actors, Stage Hands, Floor Manager, Grips, Cameramen, Wardrobe People, Secretaries, Assorted Denizens of Manhattan, Tess's Classmates, Brooklyn Neighbors, and a Doorman.

HERB LEE - A writer on Comedy Cavalcade. Rumpled, silent but expressive. He communicates through Alice.

K.C. DOWNING - Assistant to the producer. A bright, attractive career girl...with a secret; she's the only straight man in a world of funny people. Pretty enough to be The Breck Girl.

KING KAISER - A big bear of a man in his thirties; physical, loud. He used to be a Catskill Comic, now he's the host of America's number one t.v. show.

LEO SILVER - The gray-haired, well-dressed, antacid chewing producer of the Comedy Cavalcade. Physically smaller than King, but the only one who can come close to controlling him.

SY BENSON - Head writer on the Comedy Cavalcade. Dyspeptic, bullying to all...except King.

TESS - Swann's estranged daughter. A very pretty, very Grace Kelly sort of sixteen-year-old. Quite a young lady.

UNCLE MORTY - Benjy's uncle (Belle's brother). Rather round, rather thick, rather bald, but the sort of uncle you run to when family gatherings get too dull.
