Programs Overview
The Urban Horticulture program at MCC prepares you for a career in wholesale or retail nurseries, landscape design and construction companies, or landscape management firms. You will also be prepared to work for a government agency involved with the technical phases of the urban horticulture industry. In the program, you’ll learn all about the design, planning, and management of landscapes and how to develop horticulture in urban spaces, parks, and private residential spaces. Design and horticulture awareness are essential components of the program.
Urban Horticulture
The Urban Horticulture program prepares students to work as technicians, supervisors, managers, or owners in wholesale or retail nurseries, landscape design and construction operations, or landscape management companies. In addition, the program prepares students for careers with local, state, and federal government agencies involved with the technical phases of the Urban Horticulture industry. A component of this Program can prepare you for design, planning and management of landscapes. A Landscape Designer can develop urban spaces as well as parks, or private residential space. Community Garden
The Mesa Community College Garden Project - MCGP - mission is to promote interest in sustainable gardening, healthy eating, local food production, and healthy living. The American Community Garden Association - ACGA - believes that "community gardening improves people’s quality of life by providing a catalyst for neighborhood and community development, stimulating social interaction, encouraging self-reliance, beautifying neighborhoods, producing nutritious food, reducing family food budgets, conserving resources and creating opportunities for recreation, exercise, therapy and education". Transfer & Finish Your 4 Year Degree
Our programs can prepare you for a career in several fields or you can decide to continue with your studies and earn a four year degree. You can transfer to the Arizona State University East campus (ASU East) and continue the program at the Morrison School of Agribusiness, or transfer to ASU Main's School of Planning and Landscape Architecture in the College of Architecture and Urban Planning. Prefer to be a Wildcat? In Tucson, your transfer options include the College of Agriculture and Life Sciences at University of Arizona.
