"Like stones, words are laborious and unforgiving, and the fitting of them together, like the fitting of stones, demands great patience and strength of purpose and particular skill."
--Edward Morrison

Get to know your instructor...Paola Brown
My name is Paola Brown. I'm a part-time adjunct faculty member, and I teach for Maricopa Community College at various locations. I primarily work at Gateway and Mesa CC teaching freshman composition. I love teaching and look forward to each class session - even if we're working together in an online class! I was born in Brazil and have spent many years in both the US and my homeland. So yes, I speak fluent English, Portuguese, and I have strong Spanish skills. I'm married to Jason, and we have three children, two boys and our new arrival a baby girl. I love learning and teaching rhetoric, so just as one would expect from any English teacher, I love learning tantalizing new words and reading thought-provoking books!

An Informal philosophy about teaching...
Teaching is an exciting profession that takes lots of skill and practice. I'm constantly learning from my students. I believe that the classroom gives us an opportunity to interact with humanity by sharing experiences that make us question, grow, and think! I hope to connect lessons to our personal lives (whether we share these or not), so that you can find significant meaning in what you learn at school. It's not hard to understand then that I view learning as a social experience!

Contacting me...
The best way to reach me is by email. However, if you're in my class and you'd prefer to communicate with me another way, shoot me an email and perhaps we can schedule a telephone conference, an instant message session, or a one-on-one conference in my adjunct office.

Gateway CC students should email me at: paola.brown@gwmail.maricopa.edu
Mesa CC students should email me at:
*When teaching a course, I generally check my email several times a week (Mon-Fri), and make an effort to respond to you within 48 hours. On the weekends, however, I'm often unavailable.

Phone: Because I teach at various colleges, contact the English or Liberal Arts Department at your school, and they can help you get a hold of me. Click on "Links to Where I Teach" (on the left-hand side of this page) to get more information about your English/Liberal Arts Dept.
