RDG100 Reading Course

RDG100 Overview

RDG100: Successful College Reading is designed to help you become a confident, strategic reader in college. In this course, you’ll learn practical skills for understanding and engaging with college-level textbooks and academic materials. You’ll apply these strategies using readings from your other classes or online sources, making the learning immediately relevant and transferable. By strengthening your reading, comprehension, and study habits, RDG100 helps set you up for success across all of your college coursework.

Reading 100 emphasizes reading study strategies for any introductory class in any subject area. The course provides an introduction to Canvas and guides students to successfully read course textbooks. It also provides reading support for assessments and navigating information technology. In Reading 100, students also focus on the development of academic vocabulary.

Prerequisites: A grade of C or better in ALT100, or RDG081, or ESL202, or appropriate reading placement, or permission of Instructor.

Corequisites: Any 100-level course in another content area, or permission of Instructor. 

Placement

Important: Students who are placed into RDG100 may satisfy this requirement by taking RDG100. Students usually must be co-enrolled in a 100-level class and another academic class. RDG100 is counted as college-level transfer credits.
