NJCAA Division I Outdoor Track & Field National Championships
In 2014 MCC hosted the NJCAA Division I Outdoor Track and Field National Championships. This national event has been hosted in Arizona two times in the past four decades, and on May 15-17 MCC had the honor of holding the event in the Riggs Stadium. The championship event broke ground as one of the first of its kind to be held outdoors primarily at night. Preparations for the event started months prior to the event date, with many people contributing their time and effort toward making the event a successful, memorable experience for all in attendance.
The championship drew athletes from across the country to compete in the competition. In the past, numerous Olympic athletes have competed at this event. 50 such athletes, who came from junior college backgrounds, competed in track and field in the 2012 London Olympics.
