What's Hoop of Learning?

Hoop of Learning is Indigenous by design, based on a traditional Native American worldview of a circle, or hoop, of lifelong development. Its mission is to encourage, support, and create conditions that empower American Indian students to complete high school and transition successfully to higher education.

What does HOL do?

Do I qualify?

  • Must possess a CIB (Certificate of Indian Blood)
  • Must have a 2.0 or higher GPA
  • Have at least six high school credits completed (Start as early as the second semester of your freshman year)
  • ***Even if you think you might not fit all the requirements, we still encourage you to apply and let us decide.

Hoop of Learning Program Goals

  • Increase high school retention and high school graduation rates
  • Increase American Indian participation and matriculation rates in college
  • Create the conditions for retaining American Indian students to reach their higher education goals
  • Enhance American Indian culturally relevant curriculum
  • Increase diversity on college campuses
  • Strengthen external collaboration by establishing and continuing partnerships with American Indian communities, school districts, and other agencies.
