Notes: Class 17154 Online classes are conducted exclusively via the Internet. Before enrolling in their first online class at MCC, students need to view the online orientation and complete the readiness survey on www.mesacc.edu/elearning/get-started for additional information. Students may contact instructor at: jill.raymond@mesacc.edu
Class 17154 This is a fully online microbiology course. There will be no required in class meetings, exams, or labs. To complete the course, you must purchase a custom microbiology lab kit from escience labs. The cost of the lab kit is $248. You must have the lab kit in your hands by the first day of class. To purchase the lab kit, go to http://esciencelabs.com/ and click on Create Account. After you create your account, log in and click on Have a Code. The code for the kit is kit6007 (not just 6007 please type in kit6007). You must also either purchase or have access to a microscope with an oil immersion lens (100X) and immersion oil. We will be using the microscope one time to view and take photos of seven slides you will prepare. If you live near Mesa Community College you can use the microscopes in the biology study lab during the hours the study lab is open. The study lab is usually open Monday-Thursday 9am-7pm and Friday 9am-3pm. You cannot view your slides at the Red Mountain campus or any of the other Maricopa campuses. If you live out of state, I can provide you with a letter stating you are enrolled in the course and you may be able to use a microscope at a community college near you. The other option is to purchase a microscope and immersion oil for about $100. This is the microscope you would need to purchase: https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B00AM5XB5O This is the immersion oil you would need to purchase: https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B005XDCGMY We will be using free online textbooks for the course. If you have any questions, please email jill.raymond@mesacc.edu
