Mother Nature is a Member of Our Faculty

On our vibrant, 98-acre Sonoran Desert campus, Mother Nature serves as an instructor, classroom and learning laboratory. In the fall of 2014, students participated as 300 endangered, native desert pupfish were released by the Arizona Game and Fish Department into the campus cienega wetlands area. MCC Red Mountain has been recognized with the North American Native Plant Society’s 2014 Founders Conservation Award as well as the National Wildlife Federation’s 2016 Certified Wildlife Habitat designation.

Smaller Campus Makes a Sizeable Difference

A student/instructor ratio of 20:1, leading-edge learning labs and student-friendly class schedules create a nurturing learning environment. The enormity and overwhelming scope of large university campuses is replaced with one-on-one collaborations, engaged faculty and motivating experiences.

Flexible 2-4-1 Class Schedule

What’s Your Ideal Class Schedule?

  • Classes Monday/Wednesday or Tuesday/Thursday
  • 5-days-a-week classes condensed to 4 days
  • Friday off or Friday-only classes. You decide.

Our students indicated they wanted more options in scheduling. In response, MCC Red Mountain has created our new 2 day/4 day/1 day schedule offering flexibility to help students create a class schedule around their busy lives. Our most popular three-credit classes – now offered on Fridays only – may be just what those who are working need to begin higher education. For others, having no classes on Fridays may be the best option. Whatever you pick, MCC Red Mountain is here to help you succeed.

Our Campus

The Red Mountain campus of Mesa Community College is celebrating 20 years of nationally acclaimed excellence in higher education opportunities. With a strong focus on student success and making college affordable, the engaged faculty makes Red Mountain an academically inspiring and nurturing environment to begin college.

Take a virtual tour around the Red Mountain campus of Mesa Community College, with Alejandra Castaneda and Autumn Williams, MCC Student Ambassadors. During this time of COVID-19, when only essential staff are allowed on campus, we would like to inform you about some of our enrollment, retention, and student support virtual services and where you might find these services on campus when we open again for in-person classes. We will also show you some of the beauty of the Red Mountain campus, and you'll see why students love it here!

The Cienega

The wetlands area in the center of the Red Mountain campus was created as a compelling teaching lab and refuge for endangered plants and animals. Life Science faculty bring in partners such as the Arizona Game & Fish Department and U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service to transform the cienega into a dynamic learning environment where students are integrally involved in important conservation endeavors. A Game & Fish camera shares a streaming view of the lively world under the water. Endangered populations thriving in the cienega include the desert pupfish, Gila topminnow and lowland leopard frogs. While participating in elite ecological activities, students network with wildlife professionals, seeing first hand some of the many possible careers in science.
