Students must earn a grade of C or better for all courses within the program.

The Associate in Applied Science (AAS) in Insurance Studies program is designed for students who are interested in gaining foundational skills in the insurance industry. Courses provide a framework of knowledge including an introduction to the insurance industry, principles of property and liability insurance, personal, and commercial insurance. The program also includes a Certificate of Completion (CCL) in Insurance Studies.

This program will help you gain the expertise needed to:

  1. Explain effective workplace behaviors and professionalism in the workplace.
  2. Explain the insurance professional`s ethical responsibility to insurers, policyholders and the public.
  3. Examine the history and development of the insurance industry.
  4. Describe methods for regulating the insurance industry.
  5. Describe the underwriting and claims functions in terms of their impact on profitability.
  6. Analyze the risk management process.
  7. Differentiate between various types of insurance.
  8. Analyze liability, personal and commercial loss exposure.
  9. Describe the coverages provided by the most common insurance programs.
  10. Explain general policy provisions for various types of insurance.
  11. Compare and contrast personal insurance coverages.
