MCC Desert Echoes Flute Project Celebrates 10th Anniversary with Performance at MCC Performing Arts Center

MESA, Arizona — August 2, 2016 — The public is invited to Mesa Community College Desert Echoes Flute Project’s 10th Anniversary Celebration Concert  at the MCC Performing Arts Center on Friday, August 5 at 7:30 p.m. Renowned Low Flutes specialist Peter Sheridan will join project flutists for the world premiere of the commissioned piece “Paths of Deeper Gold” by Alexandra Molnar-Suhajda.  

“This concert will be an exciting way to mark the 10th anniversary of the DEFproject,” said Christina Steffen, MCC music faculty. “We have had so many rich experiences with the talented musicians who have been a part of the project. It will be an exhilarating musical evening.”

DEFproject incorporates a large 36 flute orchestra/choir, the Chamber Flute Choir, and smaller ensembles including award-winning sextets, quartets, and trios. Performers are from the Phoenix metropolitan area and include professional flutists, music educators, college students and community musicians.

The DEFproject musical repertoire ranges from newly composed and commissioned works to arrangements of classics, Asian, Latin, American folk and jazz.

DEFproject’s next performance will be during The National Flute Association convention in San Diego on Saturday, August 13.
