Extending Your I-20

It is essential to remember that you must take full legal responsibility for maintaining your status with United States Citizenship and Immigration Services (USCIS). That is, you are responsible for finding out, knowing, and following pertinent regulations.

Be Aware of Your Program End Date!

Your expiration date is on number 5 on the left side of your I-20 on the first page. If your I-20 is going to expire, make an appointment to see an International Student Advisor before it expires and bring with you:

  • Your current I-20
  • Your passport
  • A bank statement proving the amount of money on your currentI-20
  • A signed and notarized affidavit of financial support, if and only if, you have a sponsor that is paying for your education.

International Student Advisors can only extend your I-20 one year at a time, and ONLY if you have been continually making normal progress towards your degree. If you have many failures, this will likely restrict our ability to extend your I-20.
