Fall Semester 2020
Due to the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic, there have been changes made in the way that cleaning procedures will be performed on campus. This new scope of work will begin with the return of faculty and students for the upcoming 2020 fall semester. To slow down, or limit the potential spread of the COVID-19 virus, it will take a collaborative effort from Facilities, faculty, staff, and students.
The Center for Disease Control (CDC) recommends one deep cleaning/disinfecting, and two touch surface cleaning/disinfecting per day. Following the guidelines provided by the Arizona Health Department, the CDC, MCCCD, and Arizona state colleges and universities, we have developed the following cleaning procedures.
Day time custodial services
- All restrooms that are used and accessible to faculty, staff and students will be cleaned every two hours and all touch points in the restrooms will be disinfected, and this includes stall walls and door handles. All dispensers will be checked to make sure they are in good working order.
- All entry or exit doors and water bottle fillers in buildings being used by faculty, staff and students will be disinfected every 2 hours.
- The touch points of all vending machines inside and outside of buildings being used by faculty, staff or students will be disinfected every two hours.
- Hallway hand sanitizing dispensers will be disinfected and checked to make sure they are operating properly throughout the day.
- The handrails and bannisters in the stairwells will be cleaned/disinfected at least twice daily. Individuals are encouraged to sanitize their hands after stairwell use.
Collaborative Cleaning
- M&O will provide to each department and classroom that is being used during the fall semester, at least one “care kit”, or more if needed. The kit contains a small, lined waste basket, microfiber rags, a bottle of cleaner/disinfectant, and gloves. The kit also has cleaning instructions, and a contact phone number if more product is required. The basket is for the dirty rags. Each night the cleaner/disinfectant will be replenished, and fresh laundered rags to replace the dirty rags.
- The touch points of all classrooms including, desk tops, chairs, podiums, dispensers, door handles or any other surface touched on a regular basis such as pencil sharpeners and computer keyboards will be disinfected in the time span allotted between classes. MCC’s classrooms can vary from one to another so not all touch points will be the same in all classrooms.
- Please follow CTS’s cleaning procedures for all keyboards and electronics.
- The active departments on campus will also be provided with a care kit, or more if needed.
Night time custodial services
- The deep cleaning/disinfecting of the campus will occur each evening. This after-hours cleaning will include the following:
- All restrooms or locker rooms will be cleaned and disinfected to include all toilets, sinks, urinals, vanity counters and fixtures, partitions, mirrors, floors, tiles, dispensers, sharps containers, trash can lids, doors, door handles, stall walls, and light switches. Trash will be emptied and all dispensers will be checked to make sure they are in good working order.
- All classrooms and labs will be cleaned and disinfected to include all desks or table tops, chairs, podiums, furniture, pencil sharpeners, dispensers, trash can lids, door handles and light switches. Trash will emptied and all floors will either be vacuumed or mopped. All dispensers will be checked to make sure they are in good working order.
- Common areas, conference rooms and hallways will be cleaned and touch point areas such as furniture, tables, chairs, door handles, water bottle fillers, dispensers, light switches and trash can lids will be disinfected. Trash will emptied and all floors will either be vacuumed or mopped. All dispensers will be checked to make sure they are in good working order.
- Admissions and student services areas will be cleaned and touch point areas such as furniture, tables, chairs, door handles, water bottle fillers, dispensers, light switches and trash can lids will be disinfected. Trash will emptied and all floors will either be vacuumed or mopped. All dispensers will be checked to make sure they are in good working order.
- Faculty and staff offices will have touch point items such as door handles along with light switches cleaned and disinfected. Trash will be emptied and the flooring will either be vacuumed or mopped. If faculty or staff members do not want a custodian to enter their office but would like their trash emptied they can place the trash container outside their office door and the trash will be emptied.
Disinfection processes and chemicals used
- Disinfection will be completed by one of two methods:
- Electrostatic disinfection is a process where EPA approved disinfectants and equipment provided are used according to CDC guidelines. It disinfects, or kills, unwanted pathogens from every targeted surface by spraying an electrostatically charged mist onto surfaces and objects. Electrostatic spray uses a liquid disinfectant that is combined with air and atomized by an electrode inside the sprayer.
- Disinfecting by hand with the use of an EPA approved disinfectant and CDC guidelines. This process disinfects, or kills, unwanted pathogens from every targeted surface by disinfectant that is sprayed by hand onto a surface and minutes later wiped down with a microfiber towel. The cleaning products used by MCC exceeds the minimum requirements recommended by the CDC, and the EPA. MCC does not use bleach-based products.
