NOTE:  The Biotechnology Program is being reorganized and will not be accepting new students this coming semester.  Contact the program director for more information.

Students enrolled in the MCC Biotechnology Program receive a strong background in the fundamentals of biology and chemistry in addition to intense hands-on training in an atmosphere akin to authentic research laboratories. This training includes but is not limited to documentation skills, experimental design, nucleic acid manipulations, eukaryotic cell culture, real-time PCR, fluorescent microscopy and the use of DNA microarrays.

Students receive real industry experience through a capstone internship course. Industry partners include Tgen, Orthologic, Flow Chips, Barrow Neurological Institute at St. Joseph’s Hospital, Gensensor, Alcor Life Extension, and research labs at the Carl T. Hayden VA Medical Center.

Graduates of the MCC Biotechnology program have found employment at various institutions including Tgen, Genosensor Corporation and Barrow Neurological Institute at St. Joseph’s Hospital. Several graduates of the MCC Biotechnology Program are currently pursuing Ph.D. degrees at various institutions around the country.

When one compares the cost, amount of hands-on lab time, low student to teacher ratio, the transfer and industry opportunities, it is easy to see why Mesa Community College is the premiere institution in Arizona for beginning a career in biotechnology.
