Updates and Reminders of Important Information:
Extensions - Per the Chancellor’s March 30 communication, the new scheduled date for returning to work at campus facilities is May 11, extending remote work through May 8. The Spring semester has been extended to May 23, 2020. As a result, the start of the 4-day work week will begin May 25, 2020, with the first Friday off being May 29, 2020.
Helping Students Financially - The Maricopa Community Colleges Foundation's State Farm Emergency Student Assistance Fund is accepting applications from students with a short-term, unforeseen financial hardship or immediate expense that may impact their academic success. There are additional grant opportunities for veterans and First Year Experience students.
Helping Students with Technology - We have launched several call campaigns, reaching out to students who have never taken online or hybrid courses to answer questions and help them feel confident they can succeed in a remote learning environment.
Student Laptop/ Internet Requests - MCC has a limited number of laptops available to loan to students. The student must have internet access to receive a laptop. If you know of a student who needs assistance as they transition to remote instruction, the form is available at mesacc.edu/student-laptop. Laptop distributions are only scheduled through next Wednesday, April 8, so it is critical we get this information to the highest needs students as soon as possible.
New Emergency Leave Opportunities - The Department of Labor enacted the Families First Coronavirus Response Act, which creates two new emergency paid leave possibilities: the Emergency Family and Medical Leave Expansion Act and the Emergency Paid Sick Leave Act.
Campus Facilities Closed -- For the safety of our essential employees who must be on campus and because college facilities have been deep cleaned, access to campus is allowed only for materials essential to complete work functions. You must obtain your supervisor’s approval and notify College Police and Maintenance before you enter the premises.
Update Contact Information - Please check to be certain your previous on campus office hours are removed from your My Contact Information revising it to outline the best ways or days and times to reach you, while you are working remotely. Updates may be made here or by accessing the My Contact Information link in the upper left hand corner of your screen when logged in on the Intranet.
Employee Development - Find more than a 100 online classes to take at the MCCCD Employee Learning Center including professional development, leadership skills, software tutorials, health/safety procedures, stress management and how to be happy.
Please give our students and our colleagues extra caring support in this coming week as our on-campus and hybrid classes transition to remote formats. Reach out where you see assistance is needed and know help is here for you, also.
Enjoy the beautiful spring weather this weekend!
