MCC Information Center Volunteers Needed

Published Wednesday, July 29, 2020 at 4:53pm

Greetings MCC,

As you may have read in earlier communications, student services departments are entering their peak enrollment season. While we are continuing to provide all services virtually, we do recognize that some students may need to come to campus for an appointment with a team member. The campuses remain closed to the public, but we are going to start seeing more employees and more cars on campus, which may lead to students and community members coming to campus without realizing campus facilities are not yet open for in-person services.

In order to serve our community who come to campus, both the Southern and Dobson and Red Mountain campuses will be creating temporary Information Centers. Locations will be the Outreach Center at Southern and Dobson (GC 54C) and the Computer Commons (Desert Willow) at Red Mountain. The Information Centers will provide visitors who come to campus directions on getting virtual services, answers to general questions, and offer several computer stations that students can use to complete enrollment/registration processes. Both locations are being set up including physical distancing, plexiglass barriers between employees and visitors, hand sanitizer, masks, and cleaning materials.

This email serves as a call for volunteers to work in the Information Centers for the few weeks leading up to the start of fall classes (8/10-8/28). Training materials will be available and you will be given as much information as possible about the campus and resources in case there are additional questions. If you are ready to get out of the house, this is a great way to come to campus and serve our MCC community!

In order to limit the number of employees who are present in these spaces, we are asking employees to volunteer for full day (8 hour) shifts from 8am-5pm (yep-we are back to our regular work schedules starting August 10th). Please plan on bringing your work with you - this includes your laptop computer, power cords, earphones, cell phone, all you would need for a regular work day. We would like to have two (2) employees on each day, at each location, for the safety of our staff. If you are interested in helping out, please use this link to enter your name under the day(s) you would like to work in the Information Centers. Please make sure you are signing up under the correct campus location.

Thank you so much,

Kris Bliss and Carmen Newland
